The sequel to the excellent Blade comes on TV the other night, so I think "goodie, I'll watch!". Which is a completely absurd reaction because I got the Blade Trilogy boxed set for Christmas but haven't watched it because I don't have the time - or so I've been telling myself.
I've already watched it before, and for some reason have a negative feeling about it. So I'm glad to say on a second watch it liked it a lot more. Wesley Snipes is still damn cool, and Kris Kristofferson comes out with the best insults. The whole file has a good atmosphere and style to it.
It is based around a simple plot device - remember those baddies from the first movie? Well, we've got some even tougher ones this time round! The baddies in this case are an evolution of the vampire and feed on both human and vampire blood. So Blade and his sidekicks find themselves teaming up with the bad guys to take on the badder guys. The chief of which are played by Bros' very old Luke Goss. I was expecting him to be terrible, but to my relief he wasn't. The vampire crew that joins him are made from a few familiar faces, including Danny John-Jules and Donnie Yen (I think Donnie is excellent in kung fu flicks like Iron Monkey, Once Upon a Time in China and more recently Hero and isn't really doing much in this.)
It's all simple stuff really, and not too taxing. So it's best to sit back and enjoy. And try to overlook the the bad CGI and imagine that the good CGI makes up for it. I'm looking forwards to Blade III now which I haven't seen nor know anything about.
I'll have to check what extras are in the DVD.
It's a 4/5 for me.
Maybe this year I'll actually start watching some current films
